Victorian Sustainability Trailblazers
Certified Member Casestudies
Sustainable Winegrowing Australia Certified members go beyond membership, completing additional training and embedding a deeper level of record keeping into their business practices. In Victoria, these members are leading the way, integrating sustainable practice into everyday decision-making across their operations. Certification provides independent verification of on-ground environmental practices, giving confidence that what is reported meets a nationally recognised standard.
Yarrawalla - Yarra Valley
A long-established family vineyard embedding biodiversity into everyday management, Yarrawalla has built a more resilient landscape through revegetation, habitat corridors and consistent on-ground work. Supported by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, the business uses data and observation to understand what is working and guide future decisions, demonstrating how steady, place-based action can strengthen both ecosystem health and vineyard performance.
Handpicked - Mornington Peninsula
Exploring the balance between organic and sustainable systems, Handpicked Wines is reducing water use while managing the emissions impact of pest and disease control. The work highlights the trade-offs and decision-making required to optimise both environmental outcomes and production.
Scion - Rutherglen
A small, family-run vineyard integrating biodiversity with energy innovation, Scion has introduced native plantings, beehives and solar infrastructure to support both ecosystem health and operational efficiency. Through Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, the business uses data and benchmarking to track performance and guide decisions, demonstrating how environmental initiatives can align with productivity and long-term business resilience.
Certification Pathway
Certification Process
SWA certification is a voluntary, independently audited process that verifies a vineyard or winery is meeting nationally recognised sustainability standards. To become certified, members must complete training, implement the required systems and record keeping, and then undergo an independent audit against the Australian Wine Industry Standards of Sustainable Practice.
Are you ready?
Sustainable Winegrowing Australia Members who are consistently rating at level 2 or above are likely to be ready to undertake certification training. The certification training is mandatory and must be completed before members are eligible for their first audit.
