Update from the Chair - Damien Sheehan

Wine Victoria Chair Damien Sheehan Wine Victoria Chair Damien Sheehan

The past month has seen the wine industry make progress on one of our key issues – the Wine Equalisation Tax (WET) Rebate.

Following intensive consultation with the Winemakers' Federation of Australia (WFA) the Wine Victoria Board agreed by consensus to support WFA's most recent submission to the Commonwealth Government regarding reform measures.

Wine Victoria and WFA want to see the WET Rebate returned to its original intent of support for smaller Australian winemakers located in regional Australia, and of delivering long-term benefits to regional Australia. We also support measures designed to prevent abuse of the system and access by unintended recipients.

We anticipate industry consultation to be the next step in progressing this issue. Wine Victoria will continue to advocate for industry priorities during this process.

Our newsletter this month focuses on opportunities for the Victorian wine industry. The inbound trade mission in October will present opportunities to showcase Victorian wines to international delegates in a range of settings. Wine Victoria was also fortunate in having the opportunity to brief the Minister for Agriculture and Regional Development, the Hon. Jaala Pulford, on industry export priorities at an industry 'meet and greet' held 15 September 2015.
