A message from The Hon Jacinta Allan MP

The expansion of Victoria's wine industry has underpinned the growth of our regional economy. Already, many Victorian winemakers have a footprint in parts of China. They have forged relationships that, in turn, have opened doors for others in the industry.

It can be difficult for Victorian companies to get their products distributed in new countries. Labor understands that. We will help local wine-makers access overseas distribution networks and we want to enhance the reputation of Victorian wine overseas through targeted marketing.

Grape growers and winemakers work hard to employ many. The industry is precious and it needs to be supported and protected. Unfortunately, the Napthine Government's decision to sack DEPI staff and cut the number of weed and pest infections potentially exposes Victorian growers and winemakers to the threat of crop damage. In an industry where one bad harvest can harm a reputation, this isn't good enough.

Victorian Labor will support our wine industry. We understand the role it plays in creating local jobs and promoting regional communities. It's an industry at the heart of our economy. It's an industry that governments should never abandon.
