It has been a busy start to the first quarter of 2015. The change of Victorian government has given us lots of opportunities to put wine back on the agenda and highlight the many benefits of a profitable Victorian Wine industry.
Over the next four years, we aim to work with the new Andrews Government on their many pre-election commitments. The Key Ministers who will represent the interests of the Victorian wine industry are as follows:
• The Hon. Daniel Andrews – Premier of Victoria
• The Hon. Jaala Pulford – Minister for Agriculture, Regional Development
• The Hon. John Eren – Minister for Tourism
• The Hon. Tim Pallas – Victorian Treasurer
• The Hon. Lisa Neville – Minister for Environment, Climate Change, Water
• The Hon. Adem Somyurek – Minister for Trade
Since taking office, the Government has announced various reviews that impact the Wine industry, including a review of risk based approaches to fuel reduction and a regional development review aimed at developing policies that will deliver regional jobs and growth. Wine Victoria has provided submissions to both these processes.
Additionally we have contributed to the State Government's pre-budget consultation process where we have highlighted the need for the government to retain funding the Victorian Cellar Door subsidy.
We are very much looking forward to the Government's Inbound Wine Trade Mission, "Meet the Winemaker", taking place on the 25th – 28th of May this year. More information on this program can be found here.
Lastly I would like to congratulate our first ever intake of 'Future Leaders'. This program aims to help talented and ambitious people in the Victorian wine industry grow to their full potential, while also meeting the need for sustainable industry governance through mentoring and training future leaders for board membership. Stay tuned for our future announcements on our Tourism and constitution committees.
I wish all growers a well-deserved break after the completion of picking for vintage, I hope you have had a successful season!
